Popular questions
Why should I use face masks when I go out in public? -
Face masks help reduce the risk of inhaling hazardous airborne particles, gases or vapors. It also helps reduce exhaling airborne particles that might potentially be contagious to other individuals.
How different are KN95 face masks from N95 face masks? Is KN95 safe to use according to US standards? +
They are not that different. N95 face masks are respirators approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). KN95 are non-NIOSH approved N95 face masks from China. Yes, they are safe to use according to US standards since they have been tested according to NIOSH standards. They provide similar, if not equivalent, protection of an N95 face mask.
How often should I change my KN95 face masks? +
There is no published research in determining the maximum number of safe reuse. However, below are some guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on when face masks should be replaced:
- Up to 5 donnings of the same face mask
- Discard face masks that are visibly damage or when it gets harder to breathe through
- Discard face masks when contaminated with respiratory or nasal secretions (ie when you sneeze and/or cough through it)
- Discard face mask when in close contact with anybody who is infected with any infectious disease
How can I disinfect my KN95 face masks? Would it still be safe to use? +
How do I know that the KN95 face masks are expired? Can I still continue to use them past their expiration date? +
Expiration dates for the KN95 face masks are found either on the mask itself or on the box that it comes with. Our face masks have a 3-year expiration date which is displayed on the box. It is best not to continue using them past their expiration date. Overtime, the components that are set in place to protect you will degrade. This means that the face masks has a very high potential of no longer meeting the standards it was tested on. It is best to use fresh KN95 face masks to ensure that you are protected from airborne infectious disease.
